MLTV Season 5 gets cozy with leather

Modern Living TV

Did you know that there are different types of leather? Depending on your budget and lifestyle, you can determine what type of leather furniture is best for your home.

On last Saturday’s episode of Modern Living TV Season 5 (MLTV), host Stephanie Zubiri-Crespi talked to designer Reverie Acosta of B&B Italia to learn more about leather furniture. And before you buy that leather couch or seat you’ve been eyeing, here are some tips on how to choose the perfect leather furniture for you.

When we think of leathers, we always visualize that cognac, brown, black, Chippendales look; but in the past few years, leather has taken on different colors and shapes. According to Reverie, leather is very flexible that it can become traditional and also a contemporary funky piece; it all depends on the frame. Conventional leather pices are big on moldings and carvings, while the modern ones are more streamlined.

There are various types of leather furniture to choose from, so Reverie gave a set of considerations to help buyers narrow down their options. First is to consider your family’s lifestyle. Quality leather is remarkably durable that it can provide years of comfort, however, the right one for you should be selected based on usage patterns. Will it be placed in an active setting with children and pets? Is your home a quiet, low-impact environment? These are just some questions you should ask yourself.

“For B&B Italia at least, we have the kind of leather that doesn’t have the usual polyurethane coat that absorbs humidity. This means that this leather doesn’t feel sticky; you won’t feel the humidity or sweat,” Reverie pointed out when Stephanie asked about leather and the tropical weather.

The second consideration has something to do with choosing the right color. Bear in mind that the lighter the color, the more effort should be put into keeping the leather fresh and clean. And lastly, make sure to buy from a reputable source. When you purchase leather, there should be some paperwork or proofs of authenticity along the furniture.

After choosing the perfect leather furniture for you, the next thing to do is learn how to care for it — proper care will prolong the life of leather. Reverie ended the interview by giving tips on how to preserve the beauty of leather pieces.

1.) Regularly wipe your leather furniture with a clean, dry cloth.

2.) Use a vacuum to suck up dust and debris from the furniture’s crevices.

3.) Apply some leather conditioner regularly to keep the piece from drying out and developing cracks. Do not use cleaning products that are not intended for leather such as detergents, solvents, all-purpose cleaning sprays, bleach, and furniture polish.

4.) Clean spills immediately with a dry cloth or a sponge to absorb as much liquid spilled as possible.

5.) Keep leather furniture out of direct sunlight; intense sunlight can cause the leather to dry out and fade.

Just follow these expert tips and that leather couch of yours will last a lifetime. It will not only serve as a piece in your home but a witness to memories that your family will build for years.
